Why is Burlesque DVD not working in Sony Blu-ray player?

I just bought a Burlesque DVD and my Sony Blu-ray player doesn't seem to recognize it. I googled my problem and it seems that HD DVD's aren't compatible with Sony Blue-ray players but the DVD seems regular, non-HD. Also, the DVD works on my MacBook Pro. Thanks for any help!
