ITunes will not detect ipod touch?

I have the new ipod touch and I just installed the new itunes. My computer will not detect the ipod in any way but it will charge it. I had this problem with my old computer, but it recognized it as a camera and I installed the new itunes on that pc and the problem was solved. Can anybody help me? I am in the progress of reinstalling itunes right now.
