IPOD TECHNICAL HELP!!!?

Whenever i plug my ipod into my lap top, it starts charging and works fine. but when i plug it into the computer, it makes a dundundun noise, instead of the regular tone that means its plugged in, and the computer doesnt even recognize my ipod touch. it wont show up in itunes, and ive tried everything on the website. anyone know how to help me?
