Deep Well Setup Question?

Do not restrict the inlet. A foot valve is not a check valve but a non-return valve. You can put another non-return valve at the outlet of the pump. That will take the weight off the pump when the pump stops. You can also place a gate valve after that to restict the output of the pump if you think the pump may suck more water than the well can supply but if have plenty of water, this valve is not necessary. Physically a pump can only suck up a maximum of 28 feet.
